First Month of play

The Lakers have started off the season at an abysmal 2-6. This year started off with so much turmoil and uncertainty around the Lakers roster and should they trade Russell Westbrook for more shooters for Lebron. In the highly talented Western conference the Lakers sit at 14th place out of 15, which is not good for a Lebron led team.

Last week the Lakers got their first win and had a mini 2 game winning streak where they looked like they could make a little push towards the top of the conference. Darvin Hamm the Lakers head coach made some lineup changes and had Russell Westbrook come off the bench and lead the 2nd group, which sparked the Lakers short lived streak. Russ went from shooting 28% from the field and 8% from the 3 point line while starting to shooting 57% from the field and 33% from the 3 point line off the bench. This allows Russ to be Russ and control the pace and offense and he can't do that while playing with Lebron. On paper it looks great but in the game the two superstars have budding play styles, they are figuring it out in their 2nd year together but the lack of shooting on the Lakers roster is definitely hurting the Lakers in game.

There inconsistencies from three are the reason they can be top ranked teams like the Nuggets and Pelicans but then lose to a Jazz team by 14 who is suppose to be in a rebuilding year. The year for the Lakers will have many up and downs but I think they are trending in the right direction to make a playoff push this year and we know if they get to the playoffs they are a dangerous team because they have one of the best to ever play the game Lebron James on their team. It won't be easy because of how loaded the western conference is but if they continue to play as hard and well on defense as they have been they'll definitely have a chance to make some noise.

Today they play a very talented Cavaliers squad who have proven they are a team to be dealt with this year and I'm looking forward to how they respond to the challenge If they want to win they must stop the deadly backcourt combo of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell as well as make open shots to allow this to be a defensive and fast paced game because the Lakers are always better in transition.

  1. I know absolutely nothing about basketball, so it was interesting to have it sort of explained by someone who's infinitely more versed in the subject than I am.

  2. I think Russ coming off the bench would be good in a way for the lakers to have that help on the bench that they don't really have. But the one thing that they really need on that team are shooters. It's a shame that they are wasting Lebron's last years with a non-shooting team who he can't really spread the floor like that.
